Services and cargo
What is stevedoring?
Stevedoring is the loading and unloading of cargo to and from ships, together with moving that cargo around the quay, yard and terminal. It covers container handling, general and project cargo, and bulk commodities.
What kinds of cargo do you handle?
Containers, general and project cargo, including ODC, coil, steel plate and tank cargo, and bulk commodities. We also palletise, lash and chock cargo so it stays secure.
What is ODC cargo?
ODC stands for over-dimensional cargo: loads too large or too heavy for a standard container, such as tanks, pipes, pressure vessels and machinery. They usually travel on flat racks and need a planned lift and careful lashing.
What do lashing and chocking involve?
Lashing ties cargo down to its flat rack or platform with straps, chains or wires. Chocking places blocks against the cargo so it cannot slide or roll. Together they keep a load stable while it is lifted, moved and transported.
What is palletisation?
Palletisation means securing cargo on pallets so it can be lifted, moved and stacked as one stable unit. It is especially useful for export cargo, which is handled several times on its way.
What are a CFS and an ICD?
A Container Freight Station (CFS) is where cargo is packed into containers or unpacked from them. An Inland Container Depot (ICD) is a dry port that receives, stores and releases containers away from the seaport.
Do you handle steel coils and steel plate?
Yes. We handle coil and steel plate, including heavy lifts up to 50 MT with our German-made Boss handler.
Do you handle tank cargo?
Yes. Tank cargo is part of our cargo handling service, alongside ODC, coil and steel plate.
Equipment
What equipment does Ocean Voyage Logistics own?
Our fleet is nine machines, all run and maintained by our own team: five Kalmar reach stackers for containers, three cranes for ODC and bulk cargo, and one German-made Boss handler for coil and steel plate up to 50 MT.
What does a reach stacker do?
A reach stacker is a container-handling machine with a telescopic boom. It lifts containers, stacks them several rows high in the yard, and loads them to and from trailers.
Working with us
Can I hire skilled labour on its own?
Yes. Labour supply is one of our six services, alongside container handling, cargo handling, bulk cargo handling, value added services, and port and terminal operations.
What information should I have ready when I enquire?
The type of cargo, the weight and dimensions of each piece, where the cargo is now and where it needs to go, when you need it handled, and any special needs such as lashing, chocking, palletisation or a heavy lift.
